what happens in poland

Postitamise hetkel olen ilmselt juba Riias. Long story short: kĂ€isin analĂŒĂŒsiseminaril vĂ€ikelinn Czerskis, ĂŒritus ise oli ĂŒhe eelneva projekti jĂ€relseminar, kestes vaid 3 pĂ€eva.

Andsime ka kohalikus algkoolis inglise keele tunni, mille peale ma muidugi ĆĄoki sain, et 5 aastat keelt Ă”ppinud lapsed oskavad öelda vaid “my name is..”.

English: I am sitting in the Warsaw Chopin Airport while writing this post, waiting for my morning flight to Riga. When this goes up, I’ll probably be in Riga already. Long story short: I attended an analysis seminar of a project that was held before and it only lasted for 3 days this time. During these three days, things that have never happened to me or during my projects, happened. I think we’ve all heard stories about Poland: how it is easy to get your things stolen etc. but it is hard to grasp it before being in that situation yourself. It was Friday night and people were partying downstairs – I was quite tired, so I decided to go to bed. Since my roommate had the key and I couldn’t find her, I couldn’t lock the door. I had had around an hour of sleep when I hear someone entering the room and putting the light on and starting to rummage around my roommates suitcase. Half asleep, of course I thought it was my roommate.. until they pulled out my suitcase from under my bed. Then I turned around and asked in Estonian: “what are you doing?” and then I see it.. it wasn’t my roommate, it was some young tall guy running out. Of course I checked if all our things were there and wrote to my roommate as well. She came and she found that her reimbursment cash (over 100 euros) was not in her wallet.

We talked to the organizers and it was decided that nothing could be done at that moment. We went to bed and about half an hour later, when I was again almost sleeping, I hear someone yelling “HEY! HEY! HEY!”, someone running in the corridor and some more yelling. It turned out that the thief had hidden in the toilet next to my room the whole time and then some Spanish girls found him, he panicked and ran away, hitting one of the girls as well. The next day we had a daytrip to Hel and Gdansk and in the bus it turned out that the thief had left his phone in the toilet – a big help. Some real CSI/Sherlock shit went down in the bus, with the organizers and some volunteers trying to find anything from a locked phone. And they did – they still saw the notifications on the screen. At one point the whole bus laughed because they guy’s mom had written to him to take off his dirty shoes and wash his smelly feet. Anyway, somehow through detective work, they found out the name – it was one of the guys working in the hotel staff.

When we got back, we had to see the guy and testify if it was him who we saw (some other people saw his face as well). Tbh, I only saw him from the back, but even then I was 99% sure. Still, in the end they didn’t have enough evidence, cause the guy made up some shitty excuses etc. Ok, we thought it was done, but no – for some reason the guy showed up that night with his friend and in the end there was a kind of a fight between them and some Italian and Greek guys. What even. Later it also became known that some Turkish people had their money and documents stolen and one guy tried to steal my moneybag when I was waiting for my train in Tczew as well. Fun storytime.

Actually, besides all that, it was fun and a cool experience as well, but it proved that there are sooo many different… too different people in the world. It was great to visit all these places that I would not go ever when it wasn’t that kind of a project. We also visited the local primary school and gave a brief English lesson, from which I kinda got a shock, ’cause the children who had studied the language for 5 years could only basically say “my name is..”  But yes, I also made many pictures, but they will be in the next post.

Ei saa me lĂ€bi Leeduta.

English: No, we cannot do without Lithuania. Those who read my blog could already be tired of the constant mention of Lithuania or Lithuanians, but I have more than enough to say. So this time, Matas and Gytis decided that it was their time to come to Estonia – done and dusted. Coming up with a concrete plan took a bit time, but we managed. At the end, it turned out to be an ideal weekend. On Thursday evening I managed to get myself to Haapsalu only to go to Tallinn on Friday morning, to pick the guys up at 7.20. After that we drove back to Haapsalu, to get some breakfast and maybe nap, but only one of us managed to do so. At some point we decided to go to the town, so we walked around, saw the castle, the promenade, the ice road, the railway station and ate lunch at Talumehe pub, which the guys really liked. So then it was again the time to take the turn and go to Tallinn, to have a good Estonian dinner prepared by Reili. In the end, there were quite many of us eco lifers. Of course we had to show them the Tallinn nightlife, so we got back at 5am. The next day was spent walking around Tallinn, showing them Kadriorg, Kumu, the sea, of course the Old Town and the platforms and stuff. We ate at Kompressor and oh damn, the pancakes were really delicious. In the evening we went to Telliskivi for a while and then again, the Old Town bars, getting back in again around 5am. At 10 am Sunday morning it was time to send the guys away, say bye bye and ‘see you next weekend’ – if it only was like that. It’s unbelievable how it is possible to find these kinds of amazing people in the most random way.

2016 | in words

Esimene poolaasta kulges eksamiks Ă”ppimise ‘tĂ€he’ all, raske see oli, aga tehtud sai!

Aastal 2017 lĂ€hen vastu uudishimuga, sest mĂ”ttes on igasuguseid huvitavaid asju. JĂ€rgmisesse postitusse panen ilmselt kokku mĂ”ned pildid aastast 2016.

Ilusat vana-aasta lÔppu! R x

English: Another year has passed by so quickly. A year that I will definitely remember. Funny how on the Internet, all you can see is how bad everyone thinks 2016 was and for me it is quite the opposite – I think 2016 was quite good to me. It would be hard to write everything down, but I will bring out some special things:

  • Travelling. This year I made it to Berlin twice, to Riga many times, to Romania (Bucharest, Poiana Negrii & Vatra Dornei) and to Vilnius a couple of times. The cycle of travels in 2017 will begin with the project in Turkey at the end of January.
  • Getting a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tartu and starting a master’s degree. The first half of the year was spent studying hard for the final exam – I made it! Graduated and started my master’s in the same field in September.. we will see how it goes.
  • Moving. Madli and I moved from the tiny apartment to a bigger one in the center of the city.. much better.
  • Weekend Festival. We went to Weekend for the first time. Although there was A LOT of people, the overall emotion was amazing.
  • Student Summer Games. The most spontaneous decision of the year and probably one of the best ones – 3 days full of good weather, great time, awesome memories.
  • Error Dance School. For the first time in over 3 years, I started doing something I love again – went back to dance practice. The first performances were already really good and gave further motivation.
  • Miscellaneous. Several birthdays, gatherings with our high school classmates, Halloween party in our Tartu home.
  • Project in Romania. This was something that in some ways changed my perspective on many things, opened my eyes and left a mark in me for a long-long time.
  • Vilnius. Thanks to different coincidences and stuff, I discovered Vilnius for myself. I always thought that London was the city I’d always go back to, but I can say that Vilnius goes to that category now as well.

And many other things. I can say that this year I got many new acquaintances, I value different things now, my point of view in many cases is much different and I (atleast hope to be) am more open and determined than before. I will meet 2017 with curiosity, because I have several interesting things in mind. The next post will be of some pictures from this year.

Leedu | an amazing weekend

Vaade 3 risti mĂ€elt on lihtsalt imeline.

English: Like I mentioned a couple of posts before, we had a plan together with other people from our project to do some trips here and there. Well, this plan came together quite quickly and so there we were, planning a trip to Vilnius. Got the confirmation from the Lithuanians and whoop! When me and Hedi arrived from Tartu to Tallinn on the morning of the 4th and saw the other girls, it really felt like half of our family was reunited again. So there we were, on our 9-hour bus trip to Vilnius, which to us was not that big of a deal, because we were already used to these long bus trips (khmm… the Romanian magic bus). Before arriving, I had this weird, hollow feeling in my stomach, but it went away, because there were 7 Lithuanians waiting for us and some of them had prepared food and there was LOTS of alcohol and oh boi, it was amazing. Family reunion.

The next morning, most of us were kind of dead and the morning dragged on and on. We finally got a move on and went to the Trakai city, where we could see this cool castle and just walk around, feed the ducks etc. This day also included traditional Lithuanian dishes as well (read: potatoes and sour cream soup haha). In the evening, we walked around the Vilnius Old Town, saw some beautiful sights and amazing districts and also went to some bars. The view from the 3 Crosses Mountain is breathtaking. We got back at like 5 am and only got a few hours of sleep.

Sunday was quiet and it was more than enough. The rest was needed and we got to just… be. Monday morning was again that sucky moment when I had to get on the bus to ride back to Estonia.. To the usual routine. Weird. Honestly, there is so much to say about this weekend, but I am struggling to find right words and phrases. Well,  let it be then. PS: Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

’twas the halloween night

English: Together with Madli we decided to once again celebrate Halloween by inviting our friends over for a party. Saturday was very hectic, there was much to do and people started to arrive already in the noon. People also wanted us to do their make-up, so we were running around doing everything etc. Our bathroom also looked similar to a crime scene due to some people playing around with fake blood. We had some yummy food prepared, a quiz and some games. Amongst guests were a gangster clown, spidergirl, a terrorist, a cat, a sheep, the Joker and different bloody guys. I myself drew some ice cream to melt down my face. At one point we thought we’d move to the city to see if there was a good party anywhere. Well, there wasn’t, because the good place was full and it was raining etc. So we walked around, went to one club and left quite quickly. We came back to our place, where 7 guys also stayed over for the night. In the morning we had our annual post-Halloween brunch in a pizza pkace called Taverna. And that was it – until next year!

half way there | rumeenia pt 1

  • Toit on vĂ€ga odav.

English: The Erasmus + Romanian project “Ecolife” is halfway done and I thought that I’d write down some thoughts.

  • Comparing to Estonia, the food is very cheap. Coke is like 4 times cheaper here, you’d get a 2 – litre bottle for only 50 euro cents.
  • The catering of the project is poor, specially if you don’t eat meat: only potatoes, WHITE BREAD, beans and an occasional cabbage. I don’t usually eat white bread at all, but here it is essential if you don’t want to starve.
  • There is a huge problem of homeless dogs and it makes me so sad. Then again, they have so many cows, sheep and horses, that the cows are even walking around the town streets freely
  • Went to a real mountain hike for a first time in my life. The views were breathtaking.
  • Did ziplining over the Dorna river, it was pretty cool
  • I have realized, hearing the stories of how lives are in other countries participating (Romania, Lithuania, Spain and Czech Republic) that the life in Estonia is actually really good and damn developed comparing to some of the others.

Kui Ă”ues hakkab pimedamaks minema ja uni hakkab peale tulema, siis on kindlasti parim aeg blogisse ĂŒle nĂ€dala aja uus sissekanne teha, sest why tf not? MĂ”tlesin, et oleks ehk aeg teha vĂ€ike kiire update liigeste olukorra kohta, sest viimasel ajal vĂ”i no.. viimase paari kuu jooksul olen saanud mitmeid kĂŒsimusi, huvitavaid pilke jne oma tegevuste kohta.. Seega. Jah.

Cool.

English: Isn’t it always like that: it gets dark outside and the most random thoughts pop into your head? It certainly is for me, which is why I decided to give a bit of an update on my rheumatoid arthritis. For about 7 months I was on this biological medicine, which required injecting myself once a week. While it really did make me feel super good and HEALTHY again, with every week, it got harder and harder and in the end I actually dreaded the moment I had to inject the medicine. Yeah.. now I am back to pills and back to still feeling the pain. Still, I have made some changes as well: although alcohol is not permitted, I’ve still had a drink or two lately and another huge thing: I am back to dancing, something I’ve always loved to do, but could not continue because of this shitty disease. Yeah, after the first couple of trainings my body did completely give up: not only the joints but my muscles as well. Then again, what do you expect with not doing anything remotely that active for 3-4 years? Haha. It is all worth it.
