English: Last few weeks have been filled with great and some not-so-great things. As of the great things one could maybe mention those moments spent with friends and family in Estonia (yes, I went there for a weekend as well) and those moments spent with friends here, like the fact that Reili came to Vilnius again and the whole weekend was filled with quality time and we visited the Vichy water park with Matas and Gytis (for me, for the first time). Also the day that we spontaneously spent in Riga with Anne and although we were so tired, we still enjoyed it. Or the day when I saw Romka over a long time and went up to (for me, again, for the first time) the Gediminas castle. And it keeps getting better. I will let the pictures talk.

it has been a while / sĂŒgis

No tere, vĂ”i peaks ĂŒtlema labas? Samas, me kĂ”ik oleme seal olnud. JĂ€rgnevad kuud tĂ”otavad tulla pĂ”nevad, sest lisaks Erasmuse-elule on mul oodata pĂ€ris mitut sĂ”brannat siia kĂŒlla ja novembris lĂ€hen Islandile! Ja eks vaatab kuhu elu veel viib 🙂

English: Well hello, or should I say labas? Since we are in the south again. Anyway, I have not written in quite a while and one of the reasons is that at the beginning of september, I started exchange studies in Vilnius University. Long story short – we were told that if we did not do Erasmus in bachelor’s, we’d have to do it in master’s. Of course my first choice was the UK, but for some weird reason it was not possible so I chose Vilnius. There are several reasons why and I’ve probably mentioned all of them already on this blog, so I won’t dwell on that. I’ve spent 3 weeks here, I’m slowly getting used to the dorm life and finally I’ll actually get to enjoy the studies here. For the first 10 days I was just stressing out because of things related to my master’s thesis. People so far are nice and Lithuanian language could be practiced everywhere. I’ve been also to Kaunas a couple of times ’cause it’s great to get the change of air (haha) for a bit. As of my dorm room: I share it with one kazakh girl and we are lucky that our dorm is like the “apartment” style, meaning we share a kitchen and bathroom with one other room, where also a kazakh girl and a french girl are living. I’m the oldest one in our “apartment” and well, from time to time the age gap is quite evident. Sharing a room with someone who is 5 years younger than me and experiences everything for the first time makes me think “damn, I am old” sometimes, ’cause when she’s going to another party, I’m probably left in dorm doing work calls or reading yet another academic article for my MA thesis. Then again, we’ve all been there. The following months seem to come quite good, because a few friends are coming to visit and I’m also going to Iceland in November! And we will see where the life takes me 🙂

where have i been

Lihtne vastus: Kaunases.

English: Simple answer: in Kaunas. I spent a month there studying Lithuanian language and culture and also met some awesome people from all over the world. There would be much to say, but I will let the pictures do their thing. Thank you Aya, Galiya, Petra, Nika, Jonas, Tamta and Zhuoxi 🙂

TĂŒrgi | summer edition

KĂ€isin oma esimesel soojamaa reisil.. vĂ”i tehniliselt siiski teisel. Adanas.

English: I went on my first trip to a warm country.. or well, technically on the second one. To Adana. The difference is that in January, Turkey was even colder than Estonia, so does it really count? I had the spontaneous chance to join a project on the topic of refugees and I thought ‘why not?’. I think it’s not nice to compare two things like that, but atleast the not-so-good organization of the January project was now compensated. There would be much to tell, but it’s better to conclude things shortly: almost 10 days of minimal internet usage (wifi was just non-existant there), 35-45 degrees Celsius on daily basis, the best Turkish rice or rice in general I’ve ever eaten, group works and different activities, field trips to the Mediterranean Sea, the mountains and the Sabanci Central Mosque, the biggest mosque in Turkey and also, visits to the refugee camps. The last of all mentioned was the biggest reality check, because seeing with your own eye how people live in the middle of some random field in tarpaulin tents, the children running around in shabby clothes and how 10 children go fighting over one random football is crazy. Add to that the fact that the women and children grab you, a white Western-looking person whenever and however they can and scream to your face in Arabic: “why don’t you help us??”. There is millions of people living like that in Turkey.. and then to think that in Estonia, where we have about 150 refugees, when a refugee family is placed here, it is made into this huge big deal, is pathetic.

The day at the beach was great, the water was about 30 degrees Celsius and so salty. And the sand was HOT. Since I’m usually paper white 365 days a year, then I of course managed to get a major sunburn, no matter that I used SPF 50 3 times during our 4.5 hour stay there.. and that resulted in not being to able move myself properly nor sleep for three days. Driving around Adana region mountains reminded me of Romania.

one, 2 and 3

Iga aasta tundub see sĂŒnnipĂ€ev aina kiiremini kĂ€tte tulevat.

KokkuvĂ”ttes jĂ€in sĂŒnnipĂ€evaga vĂ€ga rahule, kuigi vĂ€ga mitmed mulle tĂ€htsad inimesed kahjuks olid puudu. Uuel aastal uue hooga 🙂

English: Every year it seems that the birthday is arriving quicker and quicker. This year it was kind of a struggle on the organizational part, because the date was still open until just before the party and so on. That is why I kind of felt relieved on the evening of the 10th of June when the guests finally started arriving. I like doing theme parties and this year was no exception: the theme was SPORT. There were some great finds amongst the costumes again, which was really fun. We spent the whole day doing preparations, making the photo wall, the food etc for the evening. Finally people started arriving and then, when most had arrived and had had their first bite of the food as well, I decided to have the quiz. The questions were about me: some were about sports and some just general knowledge tests – I thought I made it quite easy, but apparently not. As it was suitable for sportsmen, there had to be some competitions, so I had a relay, so people got to run around a bit and drink even more. Overall it was just this nice time, got to chat with some people who I have not seen in a long time and just enjoy the time with my friends. At some point people started leaving and we decided also to go to town. Aed and Aptek were full with people, but the party was not as good as it could have been, so we soon came back home and thanks to some unfortunate things, we ended up squatting in front of my front door, eating rice salad at 3 am… because we could not get inside the house.

The next day we had a brunch with the girls in MĂŒĂŒriÀÀre cafe and since most people went to Tallinn, I spontaneously decided to go as well.. Although in my head I knew that I still need to write a couple of essays, before I could say bye to this semester, but I did not want to waste the post-birthday day sitting in front of my computer the whole day. As a conclusion, I really liked my birthday, although some people important to me could sadly not come.. New year, new opportunities 🙂

may | a very brief summary

Samas, kuna hetkel on plaan kĂ”igele vaatamata jĂ€rgmisel kevadel siiski Ă€ra lĂ”petada, on pingutada vaja rohkem ja veelgi.

English: The end of an another semester is pushing on and the whole month of May has kinda been a huge blur, which is why I haven’t really had the time or urge to write anything here. Honestly, I can’t even remember anything from the beginning of the month besides the fact that I spent it under the dark cloud of my master’s thesis proposal. Basically I made it through that only due to the fact that I had this vision of the vacation in my head and that vacation came in the form of a quick weekend trip to Lithuania together with Reili and SĂ€ra. Since they were last there in November when it was still dark and cold, it was about time to go and enjoy some good weather as well. And the weather was good – it was actually the same weekend when Estonia also had the chance to enjoy some sun. The whole weekend was great, as usual – Gytis was the one of from the Lithuanians who spent the most time with us and it was awesome. On the second day, against all odds, we made it to Kaunas as well, where we visited the Hanseatic Days and saw Matas working hard. The whole weekend was one big enjoyment of good weather: we walked around Kaunas, visited the Vingis Park and the Three Cross Hill again and had some nice outdoor meals throughout the weekend. On the last day, talking with the girls and discussing the weekend, I felt like I hadn’t had such a great laugh in a while. Quality time. Atleast I don’t have to wait that long before I can go back. We also had a third video shoot with Error, which was also fun. Besides that I somehow managed to get an eye inflammation, which is the reason why for some days I looked like legit Terminator… that was also interesting.

And my first year of master’s studies is already over – surreal. Then again, since I still have the plan to graduate next spring, I have to work hard and harder. I don’t sense time at all anymore, which is why I don’t really acknowledge that summer is here already and due to some things, I am spending the summer, or well the time in Estonia, in Haapsalu. Also, it is once again my birthday soon and of that I’ll definitely do a longer post. 🙂
